On Thanksgiving morning, I went for a 3 mile walk/run at my favorite trail. As I was walking along and watching all the people pass by I began to think how each person is out here running, walking, or biking because it’s healthy, it must be important to them and I bet it provides some sense of purpose. And then this thought popped into my head:
All humans, no matter who they are want health, happiness, and purpose.
Without these 3 pieces it can feel pretty hard to “do life.”
If we feel purposeless, we are lost. When we are lost, we tend to turn to numbing the empty feeling by self-soothing with alcohol, drugs, food, sex, gossip, shopping, etc.
I honestly cannot imagine living life without purpose, can you?
Yet, so many people ARE doing life without purpose - just going through the motions, pretending that everything is OK when in fact they are lost.
